Not only RochesterWorks!, but GLOW Works! as well {Heigh Ho! Heigh Ho! It’s off to work we glow!}

While RochesterWorks! does a fantastic job of providing free job search resources for the greater Rochester area, there are also One-Stop Career Centers for our stake units in the Genesee, Wyoming, and Livingston counties. There are direct links to the sites for these centers on the Rochester New York Employment Resource Center page of the LDSjobs.org website. Go to https://www.ldsjobs.org/ers/center/center_details.jsf?centerId=4008561&conversationId=16155 and the links for these and other career centers are in the lower right-hand corner of the page.

For example, the Genesee County center offers:

– individual career counseling

– assistance in writing resumes

– individualized training and coaching to develop interviewing skills

– assistance in finding training and funding

– assistance in identifying job opportunities

– and career assessment resources, such as Interest Evaluation, Myers-Briggs Personality Indicator, Aptitude Testing, Physical Capabilities Evaluation, and Work Simulated Test Units

So what about ‘GLOW Works!’? It is similar to Rochester Works! but focuses on the Genesee, Livingston, Orleans, Wyoming counties. The link to the GLOW Works! site is http://www.glowworks.org/index.html. They “assist adults, youth, and older workers for re-entry into the labor force or upgraded skills to move into higher paying jobs. Our main goal is to provide the quality resources and expert guidance you need to be successful and to make your job search easier by staying up to date with area job openings and the skills employers are looking for.”

The glowworks link, http://www.glowworks.org/jobseekers.html, “allows you to look for a job on-line, obtain information on how to conduct your job search, create a resume, find out about possible careers and their wage rates.”

Also, check out their workshops on http://www.glowworks.org/seekers_workshops.html, including a facilitated weekly networking job club, a session on how to use LinkedIn, and Interviewing Skills.

{Sorry about the title. I couldn’t resist. But at least I didn’t use the adapted tune of ‘Shine, little glow-works, glimmer, glimmer’ or make puns about ‘light’ work or our future being ‘brighter’}
